Trip To Cornwall (again)

Friday, August 24th, 2007

last weekend went Cornwall again…being a newbie , I’ve figured I should practice some surfing

took the train to Newquay,Cornwall… first board the train at Egham and then change at Reading for a 5 hours train down to south west of UK..

the scenery was quite nice..all things small english town charm and country side scenery…

this a view from the train when the train was crossing the Tamar Valley River just outside of Plymouth..

then the train arrived in Newquay..surf capital of UK

newquay train station

5 minutes from the train station is the Great Western beach..where I’ve surfed (or trying to!) surf for the second time..love this place..

stayed at Christopher’s Inn backpacker hostel..got to know this bloke Barry for Ireland who came down to Cornwall for some booze and i think he said he was paid to perform , he brought his acoustic guitar and all.. quite cool fella..

this is the view from the hostel during breakfast time..overlooking Towan Beach..quite neat eh? love this place..it is about 20 pounds a nite for bed sharing the room with 5 other ppl..

anwyay the second attempt at surfing and due to strong wind the waves wasn’t that good..again it’s quite hard to stand up properly….

being on the heavy side doesn’t really help too..

a board can hold up so much weight to remain buoyant and to float properly.. add extra 20 kilo to that board it will sink . just like below he he

Fat_surfer

anyway it was a fun weekend .. maybe I’ll get a longboard something around 9 foot long..this will help with the buoyancy I hope :)

until next time..cheers!

Interesting Street Art Exhibition in London

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

interesting Art Exhibition by the National Portrait Gallery of London (i think)

they will put up a copy version of a painting with proper framing
around London’s street with a brief descriptions.. there’s a
podcast/mp3 audio guide that can be downloaded off the web (complete
with maps and all)

Here’s one example near Chinatown (around Leicester Square) taken about 3 weeks back..

on the other hand..just behind me while shooting this pic is another interesting ‘exhibition’ going on too!!

but seriously folks..I wonder if we can do this kind of exhibtion in Malaysia?
(not the brazillian one of course he he)

I think it is a very good idea..very creative in getting normal average joe appreciating arts

peace out fr London

Malaysian at Mat Salleh’s Beach..

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

after a day of photographing , a typical malaysian would usually chill by the beach in a very malaysian manner..
1) no need to buy mat to sit on, just use towel from service apartment or your hotel
later the towel will be so full of sand u might as well take it with you when you checkout from the hotel
2) use cheap broken mini umbrella to cover face from sun
3) wear shirt to the beach? asian too malu to show their silat/kung fu toned body
4) stuff sunblock , beach pants and misc shirts into plastic bag and use as bantal/pillow

that’s how we malaysian roll man!

Somewhere in the..erm English Channel pula.. A visit to Brighton, UK :)

Monday, August 6th, 2007

t was practically a rainy summer..typical British summer..
it left me wondering whether I’ll see a sunny summer at all since Sept
is around the corner that that should be the start of Autumn/Fall.

However , mother nature was kind enough to grant England a sunny
weekend last weekend so my colleagues and I decided to go to Brighton!
A beach getaway only one hour away South of London facing the English
Channel.

Below are some pics taken from the trip…

Brits enjoying a temporary sunny summer in Brighton

a ’surf guard’ on duty , they are basically life guard on surfboards . pretty neat…

beach goers enjoying sun near the burnt West Pier…plans to rebuild the pier are waiting for funding..

Brighton is famous for its pebble rock beach…I guess it’s a bit hard
to do the sand burying thing here..and also walking bare footed..he he

no trip to Brighton is complete without going to the other surviving Pier , the Brighton Pier.

on the boardwalk..

A kid enjoying her trampoline jumps at the Brighton Pier

father and son enjoying the merry go round

Brits enjoying their pier boardwalk in the shadow of one of the pier’s rollercoaster..

that’s all folks! if you’re in London , do go there - it is like from KL to err PD! hehe..

daily trains are available and quite fast too..around an hours ride..

more B&W pics…

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

continuation of the previous post..

some more black and white to share..

i’ve found out that using B&W film yieds much better shadows and tonality rather than just converting pictures from my digital SLR camera..

bet ya DSLR can’t produce picture where the ‘black’ is a rich as these following pics:

this pic was taken just when we have arrived in the town of Pisa , Italy..pictured is Joyce lookin for something in her bag, we were at that time quite blur how to get to the hotel since it was kinda late (around 11pm) ..

Yee ying also was quite blur so she try to research some info from the travel guide book..

once we arrived at the hotel, we checked in and to my surprise i saw this sink and some jamban/toilet thingy..not sure how to use it though? i used the communal bathroom instead..

The Leaning Pisa Tower far in the background..when taking a picture , do look out for lines that will direct viewer’s attention .. for example this photo will direct a viewer to see from the beginning of the round stone thingy to the end and will be directed to the Pisa Tower to at the far left of the photo..

this photo was taken in London’s Heathrow Airport while I was waiting to board my plane back to Malaysia..

our family cat , a siamese cat , adopted her from SPCA..we didn’t give her anyname so we ended up calling her just ‘Meow’

usually when I go back to malaysia I’ll make it a point to indulge/release stress by doing a karaoke ROCK KAPAK session with my high school friends..yep think of 80s cheesy rock ballad by guys wearing tight jeans with big hair like Search and Wings and what nots.. usually we’ll go to Plaza Yowchuan - pictured is one of the empty hallways of that building..

Rock Kapak session with high school friends.. L-R - Nani , Acik , N & JR

tata for now..

ps: having authentic Roti Telur tonight in Oriental City..*meleleh air liur*
